Help students Step Up and fill out college applications.

More than 90% of middle-school students say they plan to go to college, yet when the time comes, only about two-thirds actually attend. Many students stumble at the college application step. You can help students reach their dreams regardless of roadblocks by participating in Utah College Application Week (UCAW).

The goal of Utah College Application Week is to provide every high school senior at partner schools/organizations the opportunity to complete at least one viable college application during the school day. A particular focus is placed on students who would be the first in their families to attend, low-income students, or students who may not have otherwise considered applying. This program is low or zero cost to schools/organizations, and participating sites will receive training for counselors, administrators, and teachers on how to have a successful College Application Week.

In 2013, Utah piloted UCAW in just three school districts and eight high schools. By 2016, nearly 20,000 students participated in 117 sites throughout the state, submitting over 25,000 college applications. 86% of 2016 participants reported that participating in UCAW increased their interest in going to college, 90% said it increased their understanding of the application process, and 84% said it increased their likelihood to seek help with applications.

About the American College Application Campaign

The American College Application Campaign (ACAC), an effort of the American Council on Education (ACE), is a national initiative to increase the number of first-generation and low-income students who pursue a post-secondary education. The purpose is to help high school seniors navigate the college admissions process and ensure each participating student submits at least one admissions application.

Since 2008, the number of states implementing a college application program has steadily grown. In 2013, Utah joined ACAC as the 39th state. In 2014, all states participated in this national campaign.
