What is a FAFSA Completion Open House?
In order to access all types of federal student aid (like grants, work-study, and student loans), as well as many forms of aid from your state or college, you need to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid as a high school senior and every year you’re in college. StepUp partners with counseling teams across Utah to host FAFSA Completion Open Houses where students and parents can receive expert, in-person FAFSA help. With 93 events this school year, it’s easier than ever to find a date and location that works for your schedule!
Why should I attend? (HINT: You can win one of six $500 scholarships)
In addition to receiving personalized FAFSA help, attending a StepUp Utah FAFSA Completion Open House qualifies you to enter our scholarship drawing. We award six $500 StepUp Utah FAFSA Scholarships annually. We will randomly select and notify our winners in April – all you have to do is:
- Attend a FAFSA Completion Open House
- Complete our event survey (the link to the survey will be provided to you at the event)
- Finish your FAFSA before our April 17, 2019 contest deadline. However, you should finish your FAFSA as early as possible so you don’t miss your college’s financial aid deadlines! See page 5 of our Paying For College Guide for institutional financial aid and scholarship deadlines.
How has the StepUp FAFSA Scholarship helped Utah students?
We have awarded Utah students over $20,0000 in scholarships since we began offering the StepUp Utah FAFSA Scholarship in 2012. Here is what one winner had to say about the scholarship and how it helped her:
“Going to college has helped me in so many ways and I’ve enjoyed it so much! Because of the scholarships I was able to receive, I have successfully accomplished getting my Associate’s degree! College has been a wonderful experience for me and I am very grateful for the opportunities I’ve had this far with college and I’m excited to keep going to school to continue my education!” – Rachel Nielson Gold, 2015 StepUp FAFSA Scholarship winner
We look forward to meeting our next six StepUp Utah FAFSA Scholarship winners and wish you the best of luck!
