Hello my name is Adrian Daza. I’m a senior at Pine View High School. My favorite sport is soccer and I play on the high school team. My parents are Hispanic and from Acapulco Guerrero, Mexico. I was born in the United States and am the oldest of three children. My parents came to America to give us a better life and more opportunities. My dad told me it was a great choice moving here because he wanted us to gain an education. He didn’t see the importance of getting an education but has regretted not going further in school. Everyday he encourages me and my siblings to study, get good grades, and not fall behind because that will determine our future success.
Before Utah College Application Week (UCAW) I was really scared because I didn’t know where to apply or who to ask for help. One of my greatest fears going into senior year was figuring out which colleges were best for me, how to apply to them, and when the deadlines were. Then I was relieved when the counselors came to my English class. We took the whole time applying for colleges. My parents were stressing me out because they asked me every single day if I had applied. Up until Utah College Application Week, I always told them no.
I really liked Utah College Application Week because the counselors gave us step-by-step instructions on how to apply for each of the colleges. I appreciated that some of the colleges had a fee waiver if we applied during that week. I applied to the University of Utah, Southern Utah University, and Utah Valley University. All three of these colleges are great but I’m planning to attend the University of Utah. They have an amazing medical program. My first step after graduation is to get my real estate license so that I can have a job to save money before I head to the University of Utah and start my major. I’m planning to be a nurse or a doctor. I’m not sure which one yet, but hopefully I can decide soon.
For future seniors, I advise that you take college seriously. Some may think that education ends after graduating high school but it doesn’t. You need to keep on furthering your education to have more job opportunities. Going to college is a big thing. It’s one of the most important things you can do. Also choosing the right the colleges is important so you can know which major you want to go into. Starting right now you should look at college and also at scholarships but the most important is Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Never wait until the last minute because you’ll regret not doing it.
