High school seniors, are you excited yet? It’s college application season, and that means it’s time to make a lot of important choices. During the month of November, high schools all over the state will be holding Utah College Application Week (UCAW), which is a chance for you to get help applying for college. If you’re the first in your family to go to college, or aren’t sure you can afford it, or if you aren’t even considering it – UCAW is for you!
Like everything else, your level of preparedness will make a big difference to your experience applying for college. Before you get started, do some research!
- This article from Jason Terry, an admissions counselor at Utah Valley University, gives some great tips on preparing to apply for college.
- Think about what you love to study. What do you want to major in? Check out the Utah Majors guide to see what colleges offer that program, then apply to those institutions.
- Gather up everything on this list – you’ll need these in order to apply!
- Get organized! Keep a folder, notebook, or binder with information about each of your applications. Keep track of deadlines, requirements, and username/password combinations for each college you are interested in.
UCAW schools will have staff and volunteers ready to help you with your application. Talk to your high school counselor to find out when this is happening at your school! If you miss UCAW at your school, you can always make an appointment with your counselor to get help with your application, or get help directly from your college’s admissions office! Good luck with this first step on your college journey! See a list of high schools participating in UCAW for 2016.
